Get Together Festival 2021

Following the success of Tramlines Festival, a rescheduled Get Together Festival finally took place in early August. The two day festival was initially booked in for May but it was pushed back as we were still in lockdown. This was the first ever Get Together so it didn’t get off to the best start but the team worked tirelessly to bring some joy to the city. The line-up had a few changes but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, it was female-heavy, including both headliners whilst the diversity made the weekend exciting for all, from The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess to Ibibio Sound Machine who brought African party vibes.

Get Together took place at The Foundry (University of Sheffield) on the 7th & 8th August with two indoor stages celebrating some of the most exciting new music about, as well as icons such as Tim Burgess who ended his Saturday evening set with a 90’s classic.

He was followed by riot girl trio Dream Wife who were full of energy and girl power, it was hard not to enjoy them. During the set, one of their grandparents, who they’d not seen since pre-COVID joined them on stage! It was a real moment.

Black Honey ended the first day with their high-powered performance that featured material from their self-titled debut and this years Written & Directed.

Whether you were hungover or taking it steady on Sunday, Ibibio Sound Machine were here to lift spirits. Their energy and enthusiasm got everybody in the room moving as the London group brought their Nigerian roots to The Foundry and made everybody smile.

Billy Nomates, on the second stage was fierce and aggressive, in a likeable way but the day, the weekend, the festival belonged to Self Esteem. The homecoming show was emotional, on so many levels, Rebecca shed tears on stage as she was overwhelmed by the response from the crowd who sang every word they knew from debut album, Compliments, Please and recent singles, I Do This All The Times and Prioritise Pleasure. They even performed a couple of new ones from the forthcoming album.

A great end to a great weekend. We can’t wait for Get Together 2022!
