FINNEAS looks back on The 90s

FINNEAS might be best known as Billie Eilish’s brother and producer/songwriter but there’s much more to this 24-year-old who’s releasing his debut album, Optimist in October where the spotlight is firmly on him, not his younger sister.

FINNEAS and Billie are very different artists and that’s what makes their relationship work so well. Some would struggle as he sits back whilst Billie gets all of the attention and plaudits but FINNEAS lets his talents speak for themselves. Along with co-writing with Billie he’s also worked with Ashe and Girl In Red which continues to prove his ability to write flawless pop.

Ocean Eyes, the catalyst for Billie’s career was initially wrote and produced by FINNEAS for his own band (The Slightlys) before giving it to his sister for a dance performance in 2015 whilst Billie was at dance school. The song gained attention on Soundcloud and Billie went on to take on the world with her debut album, written and recorded by the siblings in FINNEAS bedroom. Billie might have become to star and everybody’s lips but FINNEAS’ production and songwriting skills have been rightly rewarded too.

There’s something intimate and introspective about FINNEAS’s solo material which was highlighted on the Blood Harmony EP and we can his storytelling once again on latest single, The 90’s where he reflects on a simpler time. The track goes from stripped back acoustics into harsh, beats that emphasis the jaded message that runs through the song.

FINNEAS’ debut album Optimist is out on 15th October.
